Mother’s Day Gift Guide

Mother’s Day is next weekend and if you’re like me, you can think of a million things you’d like to get, but it’s sometimes tough to figure out what to give the women in your life.  It’s usually  a safe bet that if you like it, so will your mom, sister, friend, etc.  So, I’m sharing a few of my favorite things in the hopes that it will give you some ideas for yourself or someone you love. Enjoy!

There’s nothing better than a house that smells lovely and a good candle is the secret! The Bridgewater Candles in “Sweet Grace” smell absolutely divine and have a lasting scent that you can detect long after it’s blown out. To top it off, they come in a wide array of beautiful containers that you won’t mind setting on your counter.

Oddly similar in scent is the “Glamorous Wash” by Tyler Candle Company, which leaves your clothes smelling absolutely heavenly. I add a capful to my washer with my sheets and towels and a small container lasts for 6 months! A friend of mine gave this to me as  gift a few years ago and now it’s always on my wish list.

Clearly I like things that smell nice, myself included, and my new favorite scent is MAC’s Creme de Nude perfume. In two words it is clean and lovely and you seriously can’t go wrong with it.

The perfect bra is more than just an urban legend. Made by Natori, the Pure Lux T-shirt bra will be your new best friend. They’re a little pricey for a bra, but once you put it on, you’ll understand why. Trust me.

Reese Witherspoon’s new book “Whiskey in a Teacup: What Growing Up in the South Taught Me About Life, Love, and Baking Biscuits” is the perfect addition to any southern woman’s coffee table. I’ve loved reading all about her childhood, her heritage, and most of all, her sacred family recipes!

This Dyson Animal Cordless Vacuum cleaner lives up to its name and was honestly a game-changer for me. No more bending down with a dustbuster or dragging a cord around the house for quick pickups. Do yourself, or someone you love, a favor and buy this today!

Fine lines and bad hair are a thing of the past with a good silk pillowcase. You’ll sleep in luxury and feel like a million bucks with this hypoallergenic, 100% silk, 600 thread count case for your pillow and it won’t break the bank either.  I love mine so much that I travel with it!

Everyone loves a roadie, so why not do it in style with this marble stainless steel wine tumbler from Oggi? It comes with a seal-tight lid that keeps spills from happening and a super cute design to boot!  She may need more than one at this price 😉

And what woman doesn’t love something indulgent to eat and drink? Spoil her (or yourself) with my new favorite Pinot Noir Rose by Longford Estates and Sea Salt Butterscotch Caramels from Trader Joe’s. If you aren’t lucky enough to have a TJ’s nearby, click this link for the chocolates and you can get them online.

Cheers to a fabulous Mother’s Day celebrating that special lady in your life!

My Beauty Routine

I get a lot of questions about my beauty routine, particularly when it comes to skincare, but I’ve always shied away from sharing due to one simple fact: I’m not a beauty junkie. There, I said it. Seriously! Even though I’m a self-professed shopaholic, I’m just not that into products. I’m a big believer in simplicity and maybe I can chalk it up to good genes, but so far, this philosophy has worked for me. But, nonetheless, you asked, so here goes!

When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do is splash my face with cold water. Yep. Cold water. Even in the winter. It’s shocking, but it is also invigorating, and it’s just a habit of mine. I’ve done some research and it all says that a splash of cold water can tighten up or close your pores, so that’s reason enough for me. When I actually hop in the shower or bath, I use this cleanser to wash away any dirt or oil from the previous night.  It has these tiny beads with ginseng and Vitamin C and I love the fresh tingle it gives me in the morning. Once or twice a week, I will also use my Clarisonic Mia 2 to help exfoliate any dead skin cells. This keeps my face feeling super smooth, but I do have to be careful not to overdo it since I have sensitive skin. These babies aren’t cheap, but you have to look at it as an investment. While you do need to change the heads out twice a year, the device itself will last you a good while. In fact, I’ve had mine for about 7 years now and it’s still going strong!

Morning Routine

Once I’m all dry, I slather on moisturizer. I’m not super loyal to any one brand, and as long as it is oil-free and has sunscreen in it, I’m good.  But lately, I’ve been really loving the Garnier “Clearly Brighter” moisturizer. It has Broad Spectrum SPF 30 plus Vitamin C and LHA antioxidant complex to reduce the look of dark spots and help with sun damage. Since I freckle so easily, this is HUGE!  I also love that i’s non-greasy and super light with a fresh fragrance that isn’t overpowering. At under $12, it’s a steal in my opinion. My next step is the only pricey one in my whole routine, but a little goes a long way, so the per use cost is low. I’m not a Rodan & Fields die-hard and before you ask, I don’t sell it. But, I bit the bullet and bought the Multi-Function eye cream from the Redefine line and I do think it’s worth the hype and price.  If I put makeup on, I do it at this point. But either way,  I finish off with a good swipe of Vaseline Lip Therapy. I’m sort of a chapstick connoisseur, so trust me, this stuff is the BEST. My new favorite is their Limited Edition “Pink Bubbly” with its champagne scent and just a touch of rose hue. I’m pretty sure this would be one of the things I took with me to a deserted island.

So, that’s my morning routine and as you can see, it’s pretty simple. Wash, exfoliate, and moisturize. Boom! My night routine is pretty simple too, but instead of washing my face, I use a reusable make-up cloth (a.k.a. make-up eraser) with some micellar cleansing water (I use this brand), which acts like a magnet for dirt, oil, and make-up. I follow it with Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream, a moisturizer that you can technically use day or night, but that’s a little too heavy for me under make-up. I get these by the two-pack at Costco for around $30, which is a great deal! In fact, it’s won multiple awards, beating out much more expensive brands! I once again dab a little of the R&F Multi-Function eye cream under my eyes, swipe some more Vaseline Lip Therapy on my lips, and call it a day night!
